Sphere Estates has one of the largest private luxury chalet St Christophe for sale in Verbier with 13 bedrooms and breathtaking views of the Grand Combin massif; conveniently located in the heart of the resort.
Chalet St Christophe is a truly remarkable alpine chalet with over 1,000 sq. m of living space over four levels. Centrally located on flat terrain, the chalet has panoramic mountain views towards the Trient glacier and the French and Italian borders.
The residence offers two interconnected halves which can be used independently or combined to create a very large family home. This division creates a rare opportunity for the property to be acquired by non-Swiss residents.
Crafted from local stone and timber, Chalet St Christophe for sale is lovingly finished, bringing an unparalleled warmth and sophistication to the Swiss Alps. Unobstructed mountain vistas extend 300° from wraparound terraces, balconies and picture windows.
Within walking distance of the resort centre, near the newly renovated Verbier sports centre and equestrian centre, the residence can accommodate up to 26 guests across 10 large bedrooms and three children’s/staff rooms. Chalet St Christophe’s south-facing living and dining areas are some of the most spacious in Verbier.
The chalet St Christophe was fully renovated to the highest standards in 2007.
Chalet St Christophe’s unique design caters to couples in intimate library and study areas to children and extended family in separate living and media rooms, all with spectacular views of surrounding mountain peaks, glaciers and valleys below. Warm, refined and spacious interiors feature lofted ceilings, large bedroom suites and natural light throughout.
Elegant mahogany, oak and fir joinery complement oversized hallways and open-hearth fireplaces on each level. Underfloor radiant heating is paired with fresh air ductwork in Chalet St Christophe’s upper levels. The exterior is finished in traditional ardoise, granite and local mélèze fir. Independent kitchen, laundry and bedroom facilities for staff and guests allow full household flexibility.
High-speed broadband and coaxial cable provide media and data connectivity across expansive living areas. Chalet St Christophe surpasses traditional alpine luxury, with copious space, abundant natural light and unforgettable vistas.
The chalet’s features include three wood burning fireplaces and underfloor radiant heating; two independent living, dining, kitchen terrace, laundry and bedroom facilities; a sauna, hammam, wine cellar for 1,000 bottles; oversized high ceilings, commercial grade steel reinforced concrete and parallam construction; a triple garage, two off street parking areas and extensive indoor storage spaces.
There may also be an opportunity to expand the current residence (or a larger commercial development project) through the acquisition of an available adjacent property. There is also the possibility to extend by 400m2 to incorporate an indoor pool, spa and fitness centre and a cinema.
Cadastral status for the property value allows attractive property tax. The title includes a transferable mortgage certificate allowing ease of local Swiss financing options. The surrounding land is subject to restricted planning preserving Chalet St Christophe’s panoramic mountain views.
The chalet is under two hours from Geneva airport.
Verbier is approximately one hour from Chamonix, two hours’ drive from Geneva, and three hours from Zurich. The nearest international airport is Geneva. Sion airport, just 50 minutes away by car, can accommodate private jets and offers helicopter transfers. The beautiful mountain resort of Verbier in the Four Valleys is the in-place for homeowners who want to ski hard and party harder. Verbier mixes up picture-pretty wooden chalets and contemporary penthouses, refined clubs and joyfully edgy new hotels: check out how magnificently The W Hotel has transformed the Medran lift station.
Verbier is a true year-round resort with hiking trails, mountain bike paths and a packed sporting and cultural calendar for the summer. In winter however it is above the village on Verbier’s highly prized steep slopes that the real daytime action happens.
This is Switzerland’s largest ski area, a proper, hard-wired Alpine resort where a south-facing bowl provides a satisfying tangle of blue and red pistes, several infamous black runs and unforgettable off-piste skiing. Descend the legendary Bec des Rosses, free ride through the Vallon d’Arby or ski as a family on the forgiving slopes through the trees to La Tzoumaz.
As night falls the focus moves into the village centre. Après-ski evenings often start at Hotel Farinet, Mont Fort Pub or Le Rouge and end at the Casbah or legendary Farm Club where royalty and celebrities party with seasonaires.
How To Buy in Switzerland: The purchase process in Switzerland is straightforward and well structured. However Switzerland imposes restrictions on who can purchase property with the precise rules differing between regions and sometimes between neighbouring resorts. In general non-Swiss nationals who want to buy property in Switzerland must obtain a permit prior to any purchase. The two laws that concern the purchase of second homes are the Lex Koller, introduced in the 1980s as a way of limiting the number of second-homes allowed to be purchased by non-residents and the Lex Weber, introduced in 2012, limiting the supply of new second homes. Under the Lex Koller foreign buyers are only permitted to own one property in Switzerland and they cannot resell their home within five years of purchase. There are some of Switzerland’s 26 cantons (administrative areas) where only Swiss nationals or people holding a Permit B (long-term work permit) or a Permit C (a permanent residence permit) can buy. Many of the elite ski resorts and also the cities of Geneva and Zurich have severe restrictions. However special government legislation means that all new-build homes in Andermatt, most unusually, are free of any restrictions on non-Swiss owners. To fully discuss purchasing options it is essential to consult a specialist.
