The hallway leads directly into the open plan living area, complete with a comfortable sofa and TV area, dining table and modern kitchen. Near full width sliding glass doors open onto the generously sized terrace with ample space for additional table and seating from which to enjoy the views, whether over the ocean or the coconut plantations.
High ceilings create a sense of space and ensures natural light fills the apartment.
Sizes range from 55.54 sqm internal + 11.96 sqm terrace (67.50 sqm in total), to 58.27 sqm internal + 11.19 sqm or 13.19 sqm terrace (69.46 sqm or 71.46 sqm in total).
There will be a total of 58 elegant one-bedroom units.
When complete, Southbeach Weligama will comprise three exquisite 4-bedroom penthouses (one sunrise facing penthouse remaining), 34, spacious two-bedroom units (with two option types – a linear designed ocean fronting apartment or a square shaped corner unit on the sunrise facing side of the building with ocean facing terrace), 2 sunrise duplexes and 58 elegant one-bedroom units, offering a variety of choices to suit your preferences and needs.
The development is selling well (over 60% sold out), with a range of one and two-bedroom apartments still available, and with a choice of ocean or spectacular sunrise vista options. Offers for bulk purchases by investors will also be considered.
Southbeach is a signature vision by renowned Balmond Studio. With over 50 years’ experience, Balmond’s London and Colombo design studios are renowned for their innovation, creativity and passion for sustainability. They are led by Sri Lanka born Cecil Balmond, OBE, the world’s leading thinker on form and structure.
With projects spanning the entire design spectrum, the team has distilled their expertise into Southbeach Weligama – apartments that set a new trend for modern Sri Lankan coastal living.
The apartments have been designed with large balconies and high ceilings to enjoy the beautiful sea views, with no land mass between the beach and Antarctica.
The centrepiece of this coastal oasis is a 35-meter infinity pool gracing the ground level, providing a serene retreat where you can unwind and bask in the tropical ambiance.
Life at Southbeach is an experience that goes beyond freehold ownership and extends to being part of a select community of individuals who value art, architecture, culture and a unique living experience.
The project, expected to complete by December 2024, includes a range of amenities, including a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a dedicated recording studio, a wonderful restaurant with bar and terrace area – set to become the hub of southern Sri Lankan hospitality, offering a comfortable all-day eating, drinking, relaxing and working environment.
The rooftop presents an unparalleled experience with a second infinity pool, 20-metres in length, that seems to merge with the endless horizon, allowing residents to witness world class sunrises and sunset over the Indian Ocean.
With a 75m wide beachfront access on the surfing capital of the region, the shallow waters of Weligama, a swimmable sandy bay, are a magnet for people from around the globe, offering a haven for water enthusiasts and beach lovers alike.
Dive into the local culinary scene by exploring nearby restaurants with friends or embark on relaxing catamaran sailboat adventures along the azure waters. For a truly remarkable experience, venture to the nearby Mirissa, where you can witness the majesty of blue whales, or make your way to the Yala National Park, home to elusive leopards and an array of exotic wildlife. Weligama is also perfectly located for visiting Galle Fort, a World Heritage site, located just 30km to the west.
Southbeach offers a life of luxury, natural beauty, and endless adventure in one of Sri Lanka’s most captivating coastal and tropical destinations, where modern comfort meets the ease of second home ownership.
There are regular flights to Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport from most major cities around the world and it then takes around 2-hours to drive to Southbeach Weligama on the highway, passing some beautiful landscapes and points of interest.

Sri Lanka simply has it all: an amazing history and culture, dramatic views, national parks teeming with leopards and elephants and palm-fringed beaches.
How To Get To Sri Lanka
There are many airlines that fly to Sri Lanka. Many Middle Eastern carriers fly to Colombo such as Emirates, Oman Air, Etihad, Qatar & Turkish and provide good connections around the globe. For the UK and Europe, Sri Lankan Airlines either fly direct from London or allow good connections from a number of European hubs. From North America, on the west coast it is best to connect through Asia while it makes most sense to connect through the Middle East or India if you are coming from the east coast. Asia provides many routings into Sri Lanka and is served by many major carriers (Singapore, Thai, Cathay and Malaysia) in the region.
When To Go To Sri Lanka
It is fairly difficult to accurately predict the weather patterns in Sri Lanka given it is an island that receives a range of weather fronts moving in from the Indian Ocean throughout the year. However, here is the general rule of thumb! There are two monsoons which affect Sri Lanka, the South-West Monsoon, or Yala Monsoon affects the south and west coasts from May to September, whilst the Maha, or North-East Monsoon affects the Cultural Triangle and East Coasts from October to January. That said, August is a little sunny sandwich for the south coast, so perfect for a beach break. For the summer, you can easily combine the Cultural Triangle with the East Coast beaches, or even the Maldives.
Weligama
Weligama is a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka. Its name translates to ‘sandy village’, a testament to its wide golden sandy beaches. Over the years Weligama has gained popularity and slowly transformed itself from a small fishing village to a booming tourist spot and today it has secured itself as a top surfing destination.
Weligama enjoys one of Sri Lanka’s finest sandy bays. Its shallow waters are what attracts people from all over the world. Weligama is definitely the best place for you to surf on the south coast; whether you’re a beginner or a pro, you will find a beach to suit your ability.
Enjoy exploring local restaurants with friends – or relax on catamaran sail boats. See blue whales in nearby Mirrisa or leopards at Yala national park.
International investment into Sri Lanka has dramatically improved its infrastructure in recent years. Now, with the recognition of Lonely Planet’s No.1 Country To Visit, it is geared for further growth. With an 84% increase in land value in Weligama since 2016, this is a low-risk proposition with unique appeal.
Southbeach Weligama completes the picture, offering an affordable lifestyle-led apartment located in the country’s stunning south coast on one of the island’s few swimmable beaches.
